Young Choreographer's Series

The Young Choreographer's Series offers student choreographed, designed, stage-managed, and publicized studio dance productions. YCS productions take place in the New Dance Theatre. Several YCS pieces have been selected to be on the program of the UGA Concert Dance Company Fine Arts Showcase, the department's Senior Exit Concert, and some have gone on to distinguish themselves in adjudication at festivals of the American College Dance Festival Association and by joining the repertoires of regional dance companies. Each year a YCS choreographer or dancer is awarded a scholarship for summer study at any of the premier summer dance workshops.

All performers and choreographers participating in YCS must be enrolled in a DANC dance technique class during the semester they are rehearsing. Choreographers in YCS must be dance majors or minors. Stage One is an informal concert in the Fall semester to showcase student choreography. Other opportunities for performances in the UGA and Athens community are included. YCS, in conjunction with the Department of Dance, produces the senior choreography projects in the New Dance Theatre.
