About

Dancers doing a performance at the University of Georgia

Letter of Introduction

Dear Prospective Students,

Welcome to the Department of Dance at the University of Georgia!

DANCE at GEORGIA has much to offer! The UGA Department of Dance has a long-standing tradition of training and educating talented and creative dancers who go on to dance professionally, teach in a multitude of contexts from studios to P12 schools, work as arts administrators in non-profits, pursue physical therapy, or other graduate work, as well as personal training, or forge creative interdisciplinary careers. A distinguishing characteristic of our program is its unique offering of a multitude of styles.

We currently have five full-time faculty members, along with many additional part-time faculty, four studios and our very own theatre, the New Dance Theatre, within the Dance Building.

Many dance students at UGA Dance are also involved in other pursuits such as our Double Dawgs degree, our teacher certification track, another minor, or double major. Students often take advantage of our dance program as well as the plethora of other top-notch academic opportunities this highly rated university offers. Combining your love of dance with another field can enhance your versatility, your wealth and breadth of knowledge and your understanding of how the world is more connected and interdisciplinary than one might think. We call it Dancing Beyond Boundaries!

If you are curious but not sure you want to audition, please contact us for a tour of the facilities and to observe classes! You may also schedule a campus tour through the UGA Visitor's Center. Please contact our Recruitment Coordinator, Ms. Barbara Powers (Barbara.Powers@uga.edu). We would be happy to show you around. Come observe or take a class, and chat about all the wonderful things UGA Dance has to offer!

With warm regards,

Professor Gose

I knew I wanted to continue dancing at the collegiate level, but I also wanted to pursue a second degree. At UGA Dance, I can live out my passion of dance while developing valuable business leadership skills. A quote from Mary Peyton Turner
